In the first days of the Russian-Ukrainian war, a public organization
"Directed Action" created "The First Volunteer" in Ivano-Frankivsk
surgical hospital" in order to provide free assistance to the military and
internally displaced persons who suffered from armed actions suffered
wounds or other injuries and need medical assistance.
The symbol of the hospital is an ant. It turns out that they are extremely professional surgeons who
treat the paws of injured comrades after attacks by termite enemies.
According to scientists, the behavior of ants is programmed to reduce
the number of deaths in the colony.
The volunteer project united around its mission hundreds of doctors, volunteers and
organizations from all over Ukraine and Europe.
According to statistics, every third military wound is a mine-explosive injury,
gunshot and shrapnel injuries of limbs.
The hospital treats soldiers of a separate special purpose unit "AZOV" and
National Guard of Ukraine, Ministry of Internal Affairs.
15% of patients are defenders of the Azovstal plant (Mariupol) and
prisoners of war
Already on the fourth of March, the hospital successfully operated on the first patient -
a soldier who received a shrapnel wound in Kharkiv.

Psychological support
Regarding the mental health treatment of surgical center patients:
a psychologist, a psychiatrist, a medical chaplain are constantly working.
During the reporting period, 218 psychologist consultations were conducted.
About 70% of patients are diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Trainings and education for IDPs
Another aspect of the work aimed at overcoming the humanitarian crisis,
there are trainings and education for employees of organizations that work with internal
displaced persons. Conducted trainings on the topic "Emotional burnout in time
wars - we identify and overcome", "Film therapy. Self-identification through cinema".
"Stress and stress resistance" - for IDPs and representatives of host communities.
Among the participants of the training are "I-Mariupol" organizations, public organizations,
oriented to work with IDP women, employees of the Department of Social Affairs
politicians of the regional military-civilian administration, students from the Kherson region and
Kharkiv, trainings were also held for the staff of the Center for displaced persons from
Luhansk region, Kherson hub and representatives of Lysetsk self-government.
In total, the trainings covered approximately 1,000 people.

"Directed Action" created "The First Volunteer" in Ivano-Frankivsk
surgical hospital" in order to provide free assistance to the military and
internally displaced persons who suffered from armed actions suffered
wounds or other injuries and need medical assistance.
The symbol of the hospital is an ant. It turns out that they are extremely professional surgeons who
treat the paws of injured comrades after attacks by termite enemies.
According to scientists, the behavior of ants is programmed to reduce
the number of deaths in the colony.
The volunteer project united around its mission hundreds of doctors, volunteers and
organizations from all over Ukraine and Europe.
According to statistics, every third military wound is a mine-explosive injury,
gunshot and shrapnel injuries of limbs.
The hospital treats soldiers of a separate special purpose unit "AZOV" and
National Guard of Ukraine, Ministry of Internal Affairs.
15% of patients are defenders of the Azovstal plant (Mariupol) and
prisoners of war
Already on the fourth of March, the hospital successfully operated on the first patient -
a soldier who received a shrapnel wound in Kharkiv.
During the ten months of the war, the hospital performed 2,000 ultra-complicated surgeries free of charge

The first volunteer surgical hospital" is nominated for the European one
European Health Leadership Awards 2022 (European Health Forum
Gastein, Austria).

Orthopedics and traumatology are the main areas of the hospital.
We perform limb bone reconstructions and joint operations as follows
categories of people:
- Defenders of Ukraine, who are part of the National Guard,
National Police and Special Operations Forces
- Members of military servicemen's families
- Persons with disabilities of the I and II groups
- IDPs who were injured during the evacuation from the zone
hostilities
- Patients evacuated from hospitals in eastern regions of Ukraine.
The surgical department has 16 beds. Every month in the hospital
10 to 12 people are treated. The average length of stay is from two
up to four weeks.
Treatment of patients includes full professional physical and
psychological rehabilitation.
A physical rehabilitation doctor and a psychologist work with patients at all stages
treatment: from arrival at the hospital to surgical intervention and to complete
recovery.
Clinic.
The main direction of the institution is to provide therapeutic and psychological assistance
forced migrants to Ivano-Frankivsk. Since the establishment of the polyclinic
more than five thousand patients turned to us for medical help.
The polyclinic has a therapist, a pediatrician, a traumatologist, a surgeon, a psychologist, a neurologist,
cardiologist, psychiatrist, gastroenterologist, ophthalmologist, ENT specialist, dermatologist.

Diagnostics. In addition to surgical interventions, each patient receives the whole
a set of diagnostic procedures:
laboratory tests, X-ray, ultrasound, Cardiography, Myography,
Encephalography
Psychological help
To go to places of compact resettlement of displaced persons and
on the spot to advise and provide the necessary medicines and medical products
the assignment is the task of the mobile medical and psychological special unit.
If necessary, doctors deliver in their own sanitary transport
patients to the surgical center or to other hospitals for additional examinations
(CT, MRI, ultrasound, myography).
Every month, the brigade makes 12-15 trips to the towns and villages of Ivano-

The charity initiative in Ivano-Frankivsk united doctors from all over the world
of Ukraine.
Our medical battalion consists of professional surgeons, traumatologists, therapists,
pediatricians, cardiologists, psychologists. Half of the staff are IDP doctors, who are also
fled from Russian aggression from Mariupol, Kharkiv, Buchi, Kherson and other cities.
During the ten months of the war, the First Volunteer Surgical Hospital had
about 200 doctors are involved. Some have returned home, others continue
still work.

Regarding the mental health treatment of surgical center patients:

Physical rehabilitation
The total number of patients who used the services of a rehabilitator is 90
persons
As for physical rehabilitation, soft manuals are used here

on average, the rehabilitation course of each patient lasts 3 weeks (from the moment
admission to the institution until complete recovery after surgery)
Trainings and education for IDPs
Another aspect of the work aimed at overcoming the humanitarian crisis,
there are trainings and education for employees of organizations that work with internal
displaced persons. Conducted trainings on the topic "Emotional burnout in time
wars - we identify and overcome", "Film therapy. Self-identification through cinema".
"Stress and stress resistance" - for IDPs and representatives of host communities.
Among the participants of the training are "I-Mariupol" organizations, public organizations,
oriented to work with IDP women, employees of the Department of Social Affairs
politicians of the regional military-civilian administration, students from the Kherson region and
Kharkiv, trainings were also held for the staff of the Center for displaced persons from
Luhansk region, Kherson hub and representatives of Lysetsk self-government.
In total, the trainings covered approximately 1,000 people.
